On June 27, MLS club LAFC officially announced that it signed the Wales international on a one-year deal running through June 2023 with a club option for an extra year (through June 2024 when Bale will be turning 35). Two days earlier, Bale himself confirmed the move on his social channels after multiple reports surfaced. ESPN’s Taylor Twellman reported that Bale would make his MLS debut on July 8 in a derby match against LA Galaxy....

The Club Tijuana defender has just begun preseason with the Xolos, but he has the club’s blessing to secure a move to MLS this winter. The Columbus Crew currently have MLS discovery rights to Garza, but sources tell Goal USA the Crew do not intend to sign him. Several other MLS teams are already expressing interest though, making a move back home look like a good bet for the Texas native....

Hawaii recorded an average price of $4.997 for a gallon of regular unleaded on Tuesday, according to the AAA state gas price average. The price report, which is updated daily, also includes mid-grade gas at $5.148, premium at $5.413 and diesel at $5.23 in Hawaii. The AAA’s national average gas price stood at $4.316 on Tuesday, driven in part by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24 and its impact on oil markets....

Each state imposes its own taxes on gas and the price can be pushed up by other fees such as sales tax. Those fees are in addition to the federal tax on gas, which currently stands at 18.4 cents per gallon. President Joe Biden is considering a federal holiday on gas taxes amid high prices at the pump and an annualized rate of inflation that stood at a 40-year high of 8....

ACM 10/1 to win Europa League Pirlo retired following New York City FC’s MLS Eastern Conference play-off semi-final defeat to Columbus Crew, having earlier announced that the 2017 season would be his last. Former Milan star Gattuso took charge of Milan’s first-team in November, stepping up from the club’s Primavera side to replace the sacked Vincenzo Montella. Since his appointment, Milan have enjoyed an improvement, winning nine of his 16 Serie A game at the helm. As such, Milan announced on Thursday that they have handed Gattuso a new contract, tying him to the club until 2021. And the former midfielder, who won 10 titles with Milan as a player, is demanding success from his players....

California voters have already begun receiving sample ballots for the recall election, which is scheduled to take place on September 14. All California voters will receive mail-in ballots that pose two questions, the first asking if they want Newsom to be removed from office. If more than 50 percent of voters cast their ballots in favor of recalling Newsom, the second question listing 46 candidates who qualified for the recall ballot will determine who becomes the next California governor, with the candidate who receives the greatest number of votes ascending to the office....

Getty, 26, is the great-granddaughter of oil baron J. Paul Getty and heiress to one of the wealthiest fortunes in California history. Newsom attended the wedding after having not been seen at a public event in the 13 previous days. He had been scheduled to appear at the United Nations’ COP26 Climate Conference in Scotland, but scratched it off his agenda at the end of October. Haas co-owns the four-car Cup team at Stewart-Haas Racing along with driver Tony Stewart, who was given half the team in 2009 in return for Stewart’s running of the team and ability to secure sponsorship. Floyd’s family filed a federal lawsuit in July 2020 against the city and the four officers involved in the arrest that led to Floyd’s death, alleging that the officers violated his rights when restraining him. The lawsuit also took issue with neck restraints, police policies and training, among other things. “George Floyd’s horrific death, witnessed by millions of people around the world, unleashed a deep longing and undeniable demand for justice and change,” family attorney Ben Crump said in a statement....

Last week, an investigation by Mother Jones found there was no record of “more than a dozen” of those Santos listed as his campaign donors actually existing. Santos ignored a number of questions from CNN chief congressional correspondent Manu Raju on Monday, whilst making his way around the Capitol Hill complex. Raju asked the New York Republican why he’d “had two donors who said you defrauded them?” He continued: “Can you also explain why you said you worked at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs?...

The chattering classes can afford to relax about North Korea because we know the real target is Iraq. At a breakfast briefing earlier this month with a Defense Department official, the moderator asked the lawyers, lobbyists, business types and journalists in attendance for a show of hands: Would America be at war with Iraq within a year? Just about every hand went up. Most pundits and policymakers in Washington figure the Bush administration will take military action against Iraq within six months–just in time for the fall elections....

Overall more than half a million new registered voters have been added to Georgia’s voter rolls over the past four years, according to data from the elections division of the Georgia secretary of state’s office. The 25 percent increase in Black voters from 2016 was followed by an essential tie between Latino and White voters, who each added about 95,000 new voters, or about 18 percent apiece. About 63,000 Asian-American voters were also newly registered....
