Brandon Vandenburg was sentenced to 17 years on Friday for a June retrial conviction on charges that he raped an unconscious female on campus three years ago. Vandenburg’s sentence was short of the 25-year maximum he could have been given. He was originally convicted in January 2015, along with former teammate Corey Batey. Richard Ayvazyan, Marietta Terabelian, Artur Ayvazyan and Tamara Dadyan of Encino were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, four counts of bank fraud and six counts of wire fraud. Richard Ayvazyan was also indicted for one count of aggravated identity theft. According to the DOJ, the four were allegedly “part of a disaster relief loan fraud ring” centered in the Los Angeles area. Members of the ring submitted at least 35 fraudulent loan applications to receive funds from the Small Business Administration (SBA) through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program....

The Senior Citizens League, one of the largest nonpartisan seniors groups, is asking Congress to send out the $1,400 to everyone who receives Social Security benefits. Inflation is adding an undue strain on fixed-income households, and the Senior Citizens League says that this year’s benefit increase hasn’t kept up with the rising cost of living. “Social Security benefits only raised by 1.3 percent—on average that’s $20. That really eroded the buying power people had even just 12 months ago,” Mary Johnson, the group’s Social Security and Medicare policy analyst, told Newsweek....

A Change.org petition calling for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks has garnered more than 2.3 million signatures and 80 Democrats in Congress support direct payments. An additional 4 percent say he should be impeached but not removed from office. Those surveyed rejected the claim touted by Trump and Republicans that U.S. presidents typically ask foreign governments for help in investigating political rivals, with only 22 percent of respondents saying that defense checks out....

A new poll from Fox News, released on Sunday, shows Clinton polling ahead of the president in a match-up between the pair, despite the two-time presidential hopeful not being among the Democrat candidates in the mix. In a head-to-head between Trump and Clinton, the poll showed that 43 percent of voters would back Clinton, while 41 percent would vote for Trump, with 9 percent opting for “other” and 5 percent saying they would not vote at all....
