The Treasury Department will start sending out the third round of payments to eligible Americans once the $1.9 trillion package is signed by President Joe Biden, which is expected to take place on Friday. The full payments of $1,400 for those earning less than $75,000 and couples earning less than $150,000, phasing out to income thresholds of $80,000 for individuals and $160,000 for couples, could be in bank accounts from the end of the month....

Throughout September, nonpartisan organization The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) gathered hundreds of thousands of signatures for a petition that calls on Congress to deliver a round of $1,400 “emergency stimulus checks” to assist an estimated 69 million Social Security beneficiaries—including retirees, disabled adults and their dependents, widows and widowers—in coping with the “unprecedented inflation year.” In a letter sent to nearly every member of the House and Senate on Wednesday, the group urged legislators to provide an extra $1,400 in non-taxable income to Social Security recipients....

Although Congress currently looks unlikely to approve more stimulus check payments, online activists continue to gather supporters calling for additional payments or reoccurring monthly checks of $2,000. Previously, Congress approved three rounds of stimulus checks going out to most Americans—including an initial $1,200 payment in March 2020, a $600 payment in December 2020, and a third $1,400 check as part of President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan this past spring....

The 2017 Republican tax cuts doubled the existing child tax credits. Democrats then temporarily increased child tax credits further under the American Rescue Plan approved in March, and began sending out the payments monthly. Through the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation proposal, these increased tax credits would be extended. While Barrasso supported the child tax credits as part of Trump’s signature tax cut legislation, the GOP senator now opposes the $3....

In the new polls, released Thursday afternoon, majorities of likely voters in all three of the key states indicated disapproval of Trump’s job performance as president and said Biden was their preferred choice to handle the coronavirus pandemic. Biden led his Republican opponent 52-41 in Nevada, 50-45 in Ohio and 51-44 in Pennsylvania. The investigation into alleged misconduct on set was made public by Deadline, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, who all confirmed that the 84-year-old actor will no longer be starring in the eight-episode limited series. The investigation found that Langella “had been involved in unacceptable conduct on set,” per Deadline. A Netflix spokesperson has since confirmed the report to NBC News. Langella has been accused of sexual harassment and making inappropriate comments to a woman co-star on set....
