The first order of business: getting quarterback Daniel Jones some protection on the offensive line. New York got that done with the fourth overall pick, taking Georgia left tackle Andrew Thomas.

Next, the Giants needed to add an elite talent in the secondary. They got that with their second-round pick in Alabama safety Xavier McKinney. New York rounded out day two with a second offensive tackle, Connecticut’s Matt Peart. On day three, they added four linebackers, a pair of conrers and an offensive lineman

Giants NFL Draft needs

Offensive tackle:  GM Dave Gettleman’s last two first round picks have been quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley. It seems it would make the most sense to protect those investments.   Safety:  The Giants have Jabrill Peppers and Julian Love as their starting safeties, a formidable duo, but far from elite.   Edge:  The Giants need edge rushers to get after the quarterback. They’re strong up the middle with Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence, but they lack the pure athlete to get around the edge.   Linebacker:  If New York doesn’t go with an offensive lineman at No. 4, Isaiah Simmons could fill a void at linebacker and safety.
