Wayne Tinkle’s Beavers toppled in-state rival Oregon, 70-57, to snap Oregon State’s four-game “Civil War” losing streak, but it was Payton’s massive dunk that had everyone buzzing about the game.

But Payton, who’s known now as “The Mitten” in an homage to his father’s nickname “The Glove,” is better known for his defensive prowess than his high-flying arials. He was named the Pac-12’s Defensive Player of the Year last year.

Payton is averaging 16.4 points, eight rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, so don’t be surprised if his name is thrown around for Player of the Year contention.
