Players hate escrow, man. Cliffs Notes: every player has a portion of his salary deducted throughout the season and placed into an escrow account. Once the final accounting for a year is completed, which ensures the correct percentage of hockey-related revenue was paid out in salaries, players are refunded accordingly.
Even if they get all their money back, it’s a lot to defer. Certainly enough to score Bettman a pair of Allen Edmonds in the meantime.
