The clip was taken using a surveillance camera on the outside of the house, facing the driveway. In the video, the FedEd van can be seen approaching the house and stopping, before hurling the delivery out of the van and onto the floor. The delivery landed by the steps of the house and the driver drove away.
According to the customer, the package contained a “fragile” item, making the delivery technique all the more concerning. “It was actually a hand-blown glass hummingbird feeder. Pretty fragile but very well packaged by the artist,” they wrote.
They confirmed in a comment that the house was decorated for Independence Day with American flag bunting, and added that they have “never had any kind of altercation or unpleasantness with a delivery person.”
“The usual FedEx guy is quite friendly and delivers the packages as one would expect,” they wrote.
The homeowner vowed that his wife was “pretty furious” and planned to call FedEx that same day. “She is much better at that type of thing than I am. I would get hung up on,” they wrote.
In a statement to Newsweek, a spokesperson addressed the video, saying: “The behavior depicted in the video is unacceptable and inconsistent with the professionalism FedEx Ground service providers demonstrate every day in safely and securely delivering millions of packages to our customers.
“We are committed to treating our customers’ shipments with the utmost care and are reviewing this matter.”
Viewers of the delivery clip were left shocked by the apparent disregard of the package, expressing their views in the comments.
“Why do delivery folks STILL do this??? They must know by now that there’s cameras EVERYWHERE,” wrote one user.
Newsweek has contacted the customer for comment.
This week, FedEx went viral for a very different reason (most would say better), as reported by Newsweek. Two delivery drivers were praised online after going the extra mile to take a large delivery to a back porch, in trade for snacks left by the absent homeowner.
The woman, who was unable to be home thanks to a last-minute change in her work schedule, left Doritos, Lays and iced tea on ice with a note asking them to deliver it to the back of the house.
In the fiscal year of 2021, the FedEx Ground segment of FedEx Corporation delivered a total of just over three billion packages worldwide, according to figures from Statista. In the same time period, the average number of packages delivered daily was over almost seven million.
