The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that Kader Exports is recalling various sizes of frozen cooked, peeled and deveined shrimp sold in 1lb, 1.5lb, and 2lb bags distributed from late February 2020 to Mid-May 2020.
The brand names of the products affected by the recall are Aqua Star Reserve, Censea, Fresh Market, Kirkland, Tops, Unistar, and Wellsley Farms.
Customers who have bought the frozen bags of shrimp with the named codes are being urged to throw them away or return them for a full refund.
The outbreak was found after cooked shrimp imported by Kader Exports was tested by the FDA. All products tested for salmonella were destroyed by Kader Exports and preventive steps were taken.
The FDA said there have been no reports of any illnesses to date associated with the shrimp.
In most cases, a person who has been exposed to salmonella bacteria will experience diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts around four to seven days, and in some cases requires hospital treatment.
Children under five, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are more likely to suffer extreme infections
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 26,500 people are hospitalized each year after getting exposed to salmonella. Around 420 people die in the U.S. every year as a result of getting infected.
