Kearse, who was released by the Patriots Aug. 23, was stabbed Wednesday in the upper abdomen during an argument about moving and other issues, per a police report filed Thursday in Attleboro District Court. His girlfriend, Dominique Hooper, told police she brandished a knife and that cut Kearse, who was defending himself with a cardboard box.

Hooper was charged with assault and battery. She pleaded not guilty and was released on $1,000 bail.

Kearse tried to tell officials he was in the process of packing and suffered the injury while moving a cardboard box containing knives.

After being pressed for details, Hooper admitted she had brandished a knife.
