Charles Wardlow will serve 30 years in prison for participating in the burglary and murder of Taylor, who was 24 years old.
Taylor, a Miami native who starred at the University of Miami, was the fifth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection during his four-year NFL career.
Wardlow, who was 18 at the time of the murder, admittted to being one of the five men who broke into Taylor’s Miami-area home in a burglary attempt. They didn’t expect Taylor to be home at the time but the safety was away from the team with an injury. Taylor approached the intruders with a machete and was shot in the leg by Eric Rivera, a wound that proved fatal.
