Smith, who played for the Bulldogs from 2009-12, was confirmed dead by Meridian Police chief Benny Dubose (via Meridian, Miss., TV station WTOK). Details of the shooting are not immediately known, though it occurred at Frank Berry Courts on Eighth Street.

Smith’s was the first class to play an entire career with MSU coach Dan Mullen, winning 29 games over four years. He had 109 receptions for 1,180 yards and five receiving touchdowns. In his senior year, he caught 47 passes for 564 yards and two touchdowns.
