The Warriors are 2-7 heading into their matchup Saturday against UNLV.

Jones coached at the school from 1999-2007 until he left to coach at SMU. He went 76-41 during his nine years at Hawaii with seven were winning seasons. In 2007, he led Hawaii to a 12-0 mark and a Sugar Bowl appearance, where the team lost 41-10 to Georgia.

Jones also was responsible for leading SMU to its first bowl game since the school received the NCAA “death penalty” in 1985.

He left SMU after starting last season 0-2, citing “personal issues.”
