Sam was on Miami’s practice squad in 2006 when he was released. He then was re-signed to a future contract by the Dolphins in February 2007 but ultimately was cut again.

Sam was drafted in 2004 by the New England Patriots in the fifth round but didn’t see much playing time. He bounced around to the Bengals, Dolphins and Raiders before spending time in the Canadian Football League and NFL Europa.

Saban has yet to respond to Sam’s tweet, but it’s unlikely he will with Alabama working to win its second consecutive College Football Playoff title.
