The Oregon team nicknamed “The Tall Firs” defeated OSU, 46-33, with three scorers led by John Dick’s 13 points reaching double figures. Oregon, coached by Howard Hobson, ended that season with a 29-5 record.
As the Ducks and Buckeyes prepare to play the first College Football Playoff championship game Monday night, it’s fascinating to look back and see how dramatically the look of college sports has been transformed. The game the two schools played on that night nearly 76 years ago looks nothing like the one contested by Kentucky and Connecticut last April.
This YouTube video of Oregon’s title run includes the team’s victory over Oklahoma in the West final, and then the OSU game at the 7:27 mark. Oregon work dark jerseys in that first final, OSU light. The uniforms, too, were far different than the high-tech Nike ensembles the Ducks and Bucks will wear Monday night.
