But in his book “Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist’s Guide to Global Warming,” the Danish economist Bjorn Lomborg suggests that global warming, although real, is not apt to be severe; that many of its consequences will be beneficial, and that the exorbitant costs of attempting to substantially curtail it would squander resources that, put to other uses, could have effects thousands of times more ameliorative....

After a three-week trial, a jury on Friday found that the city and county of Denver violated the First and Fourth Amendment rights of 12 protesters. Jurors found that Denver failed to properly train officers, resulting in police violating the plaintiffs’ constitutional rights. Attorneys for the protesters argued rights were violated by police shooting them while they were protesting peacefully. Objects shot toward the crowd included tear gas, flashbang grenades, pepper balls, rubber bullets and other projectiles....

The 28-year-old is set to fight lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez on Oct. 16, although there has been a multitude of hiccups along the way. Lopez tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the original date in June, while the Oct. 4 date was pushed back by Triller due to a clash with an NFL game. And in a bizarre twist, Triller has now pulled out of the fight due to a clash with Kambosos and his camp....

On Sunday, a new report from the New York Times uncovered yet more details from the congressman-elect’s past, including more allegations of serial dishonesty....

In an interview with NBC News’ Today show, Bush said the GOP was protectionist and said its current political vision was “not exactly” his own. But he also said he was “just an old guy they put out to pasture.” The former Republican president criticized the state of his own party a few days after he contrasted himself with former President Donald Trump in a separate interview with CBS News....

Investigators found that the since-deleted post was created by the employee’s wife, with whom he shares a Facebook account, but he was still hit with a week-long suspension without pay. “During our investigation, both the employee and his spouse both stated that the spouse had typed and posted the remarks on Facebook. The employee stated he was not aware of the post until the next day when another employee contacted him about this post,” Gainesville, Georgia City Manager Bryan Lackey said following the investigation, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution....

Hice, speaking Sunday with Fox News at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas, mocked Democrats for “screaming about voter suppression” and said he’s not concerned about GOP infighting with Raffensperger. He echoed Trump’s unproven claims that Georgia’s 2020 was “stolen” through widespread voter fraud, saying Sunday that the only reason he is running against Raffensperger is to re-establish “election integrity.” Hice told Fox News he’s not concerned that intra-party fighting in the primary could lose Republicans the secretary of state seat in the upcoming election....

Lt. G.D Langford said when he saw Cannon refuse his requests to stop knocking on the door of Kemp’s office who was signing the controversial SB 202 legislation, he feared a repeat of the insurrection in the U.S. Capitol. “The events of January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol were in the back of my mind,” Langford wrote in an incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Langford was concerned that a group of protesters had gathered in the lobby and “began to get louder as she was refusing to follow my commands....

Collins—who Trump on Saturday night suggested should run to replace current Georgia Governor Brian Kemp—said the president is not offering “conflicting messages” as he campaigns for Senate runoff candidates Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue. Trump simultaneously blasted the U.S. election process as fraudulent and unfair over his failed re-election bid against President-elect Joe Biden. Collins campaigned as a “Trusted Trump Defender” during his own unsuccessful Senate campaign against Loeffler earlier this year....

Ossoff, who has previously sought to weaponize the issue of stimulus against his opponent, questioned the $600 payments and reflected on the financial hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “It’s been 8 months,” he tweeted, with the last COVID-19 relief package, the CARES Act, which included the first round of $1,200 stimulus checks, having been passed at the end of March. “$600? Really?” In a direct criticism of Perdue, he added: “After 8 months of obstruction Senator Perdue and Senate Republicans insisted on cutting direct relief checks for Georgia families in half....

All of this results from one of the worst droughts Georgia has experienced in 100 years. Gov. Sonny Perdue has declared a state of emergency for 85 counties in the northern part of the state that are withering under a stage 4 drought, the worst classification possible. The problem isn’t confined to Georgia; neighboring Southeastern states are suffering the consequences of meager rainfall as well. And the prognosis isn’t encouraging....

It got worse midway through the first quarter in Knoxville when Keith Marshall took a hit to his left knee on a pass route. CBS Sports announced on the telecast that Marshall is out for the game and possibly the season. TV cameras caught Marshall being consoled by Gurley and a host of teammates and Bulldogs' staff members and Marshall was visibly upset as he draped a towel over his head....
